This Renaissance manor is located in an idyllic setting in the Indre Valley, 6 km from Azay-le-Rideau. It was built in the 15th century for its main building, then extended in the 17th and 18th centuries, and refurbished in the 19th century.
Honoré de Balzac, born in Tours but Parisian since the age of 14, came often to Saché, hosted by the Margonne, owners of the castle. He took refuge there from his creditors, and found in this place calm and inspiration.
Today it is a very complete Balzac museum which perfectly reconstructs the universe of the great writer. We really feel his presence there.
