If basketry has a capital, it is Villaines-les-Rochers, a troglodyte village near Azay-le-Rideau.
This municipality of just over 1000 inhabitants concentrates around forty basket makers and twenty wicker growers in a unique ecosystem. It represents a third of production in France, ranging from bakery displays to the most contemporary works of art.
The wicker-basketry cultural center
This cultural centre, open during the season, introduces you to the world of wicker and basketry with videos, interactive terminals, and more than 200 objects on display. It is also the start, all year round, of the interpretation trail There once was wicker, set up with the Loire Anjou Touraine Regional Natural Park.
